Esperanto Day is held on 26 July and coincides with the publication of the Unua Libro. 2012 marks the 125th anniversary of the Unua Libro’s publication on 26 July 1887.

Support for Nobel Peace Prize nomination

Eight British MPs have nominated the World Esperanto Association for the Nobel Peace Prize 2010.

They include Charles Kennedy, the former Leader of the Liberal Democrats.

All MPs have confirmed, in writing, to the Esperanto Lobby, that they have nominated Esperanto for the Peace Prize. The list is as follows:

Nobel Peace Prize for Esperanto

The International Language Esperanto is regular and relatively easy to learn, is currently in use by a worldwide community and is employed in world travel, correspondence, cultural exchange, conventions, literature, language instruction, radio broadcasting, and on the internet.

Esperanto already serves as a common auxiliary language, fostering effective and fair international communication.

The “Universala Esperanto-Asocio” supports linguistic diversity, democracy, human emancipation, and a global culture for peace.

Because Esperanto contributes to education for international understanding, and because understanding is essential for peace, I wish to nominate the “Universala Esperanto-Asocio” for the Nobel Peace Prize 2010

Esperanto-speaking Euro-MP Margareta Handzlik has nominated the World Esperanto Association for the Nobel Peace Prize 2009. Information on how to nominate can be seen here. It is certain that British MP’s will support the campaign.
