Eurovision Song Contest

Esperanto Lobby is mounting a campaign for Esperanto to be used in the Eurovision Song Contest. At the moment the international language is banned and only national languages can be used in the contest.

Please email ebu@ebu.ch and ask them to lift the ban on Esperanto. You can also write to L’Ancienne-Route 17A CH-1218 Grand-Saconnex Switzerland.

Please emphasize that Esperanto already has original music and songs in the language and give evidence of this if you are able.

  1. Just wrote to the email address this evening, sending them links to songs on Youtube by Dolchamar and Supernova, and asking them to reconsider the language of peace and international co-operation for Eurovision. Fat chance!

  2. Mi dubas pri la efikeco de tiu kampanjo : la regularo teorie ja ne malpermesas iun ajn lingvon.

  3. I’ve always wondered how much has been spent by governments around the world to teach their children English, and how much is that compared to Greek or Japanese public debt and whether their investments were paying off or not.

One of the ways for Esperantists to further their cause is to examine the costs of spreading English to the world in recent years (say 1990 onwards), giving facts and figures on how much each country spends in teaching its kids English and the success rate, altogether in relation to relevant economic indicators such as GDP, national debts and whatnot, not to mention some future projections on the consequences of keeping with the old course on the world economy. If they can convince/prove to the world with adequate research that English as a lingua franca will be economically unsustainable in the foreseeable future then they have their first step.
